THC is not recommended for those with schizophrenia, as it may increase the chances of a psychotic episode. However, cannabidiol (CBD) may be a potential treatment for psychosis, as it does not trigger CB1 receptors, and in fact desensitizes them to some extent. More clinical trials are needed, but for now there is no definitive evidence that CBD can treat psychosis or schizophrenia. In general, we recommend those with schizophrenia or schizotypal personality disorders avoid cannabis use, especially THC. It is interesting to note that there are some compounds in the pant that may be useful if utilized separately from THC. Cannabis is a living organism, remember, so it balances itself out by producing a variety of compounds that can tame THC.
It is suggested that compounds like THC may be useful for emotional and mental disorders that cause rigid or inflexible thinking (e.g. depression, anxiety), but may be less useful or even potentially worsen in those suffering from condition where thinking is already without any specific rules, to the extent it becomes potentially harmful for the patient and/or others.
